Thomas Dunn
Easily Dunn – Dunn & Dusted – monthly Saturdays 10am
As a kid in a quiet corner of the Home Counties, I didn’t know the first thing about funk – then I heard the intro to Chow Down by Corduroy on a mixtape made for me by a mate, and everything changed… From indie to acid jazz in precisely 16 bars.
Fast forward a few years and, after moving to Norwich for university, I started digging and then playing out, and quickly established myself as Norwich’s 5,946th best funk DJ called Thomas.
House parties became nights at the legendary Superfly, which became regular parties with the Spank/Spankd collective, and then opportunities to warm up for some of my idols, including DJ Numark, Quantic and Roni Size.
All the way through, my tastes have broadened, my ‘DJ concentrating’ face has become more stupid, and most importantly I’ve tried to learn from everyone I’ve played alongside or spoken to about about music. This is reflected in my sets: from soul to hip hop to broken beat, to tropical, to disco, breaks, and jungle… and there’ll ALWAYS be funk. Basically, if it’s got soul, heart, or basslines to give me goosebumps (or all three) then it’s in!
